Production Blog: Editing Process

After the filming of the music video was done, it was now time to edit. I did this by getting on a call with my groupmates, and discussed how we should edit the music video. While editing wasn’t my main job, I mostly gave feedback and input. The reason why I wasn’t the main editor of the group was due to the fact we had a more experienced groupmate that knew how to edit. I could only barely edit, and it would probably do a more poor job than my teammate. I still wanted to provide some help, so I gave my own tips or input that I believed should be added into the video. This feedback and input was then added into the music video. The original music included some profanity. So the first thing I made sure to do was remind my group mate to cut out any profanity included in the music. Another thing I did when editing was help out in deciding which scenes to use. This was because we had recorded multiple takes of the same scene to give us a variety of options. An example of me doing this was for the part where I put on my shoes/tied them. I said that we should do the more lengthy version as to fit the time frame required for this project. Another thing I did for editing resulted in the multiple jump cuts we had towards the end of the video. I said that we should jump cut to one more scene of me running outside. This was to add to that emotion or feel of a hard, strenuous workout, which would eventually make me collapse in the end. This edit made it into the final result, which made me feel proud of contributing to something I wasn’t as skilled at. Another final touch I added was the short black screen for transition. I thought this would be a good addition as it would transition from me preparing for all of the different workouts, to me actually performing them. The editing process was almost finished from here, only a few more final touches  eeded to be added.
