Movie Conventions Research: Identity (2003)
What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
Suspense, mystery, and anticipation are conventions that are used inside of Identity. I think these elements would be great for our final task, as it would help us portray the genre of Thriller. The mystery and set-up of a serial killer makes the movie a lot more interesting to watch, which is something I believe we could try to incorporate into our own final task to make it more interesting for viewers.
What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you like?
For me, the mystery was an extremely appealing part of this movie. No one knows what is happening, ten strangers getting used to one another before each being killed off one by one. Them having to figure out who is killing them and the whole uneasiness of the plot is really what drew my attention to the movie. I believe that if we incorporated this kind of mystery or distress into our own final task, it would be beneficial for the production.
What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
One element of this movie that I did not like was the primary location. I feel as if it was kind of bland, all of them being in a hotel, and that's something that took away from the overall suspense of the movie. It could have been a more uneasy location, even though the filmmakers did a great job at still making the movie entertaining. As well as the setup of how they got to the hotel also seemed very cliche and unusual, for a thriller I feel as if you would want to make it as close to reality as possible to really impact the audience.
