Movie Research: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)

What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol incorporates several thriller elements, such as suspense, high-stakes danger, and the constant threat of failure. The tension builds as the team races against time to prevent a nuclear disaster, creating a feeling of urgency. The movie also features moments of mystery, like uncovering hidden motives and dealing with unknown enemies. These conventions keep the audience on edge throughout the story.

What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked?

I liked how the movie used suspense to heighten tension in key scenes, such as the Burj Khalifa climbing sequence and the infiltration of the Kremlin. These moments kept me engaged because I was constantly wondering if the team would success or fail. The international espionage and hidden identities added layers of mystery, making the story more thrilling. The pacing of the film also helped maintain a sense of urgency and danger throughout.

What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are thinking of not filming in your final task?

While the large-scale action sequences were thrilling, they often overshadowed the smaller, more suspenseful moments. I would prefer my final task to focus more on psychological tension rather than physical stunts. The overreliance on gadgets and high-tech solutions, while exhilarating, felt less realistic and harder to replicate for a student project. Lastly, the international settings were impressive but could be difficult to recreate, so I would aim for a more familiar and manageable location to emphasize tension instead of a spectacle.
